The In-Depth Genealogist originally began as an email newsletter developed initially by Stephanie Pitcher Fishman. The newsletter was written by several genealogists, and what started as a small monthly newsletter became part of a larger community idea. To start, the team included Terri O'Connell, Executive Director, who volunteered to help Stephanie with an upcoming issue and former partner Jen Baldwin contributed "The Family Atlas." Jennifer Alford, Publisher, wrote the column "Jewish Genealogy" and officially joined the team in January 2013 to help turn the newsletter into a digital magazine. Shannon Combs-Bennett, Creative Director, initially wrote "The Society Pages" before joining our team. Recently, Heather Reed joined the team as Editor and Director of Learning.
Going In-Depth is the digital genealogy magazine presented by The In-Depth Genealogist. In each monthly issue, there are columns written by our team who are experts in their field from all over the world. These genealogists, archivists and historians all write with the hope of inspiring your family history journey and providing the knowledge you need to succeed. We strive to create a resource for every genealogist, no matter the age, stage, or focus of your research. This book is a compilation of the second year of publication.
Terri O'Connell (Finding Our Ancestors), Shannon Combs-Bennett (T2 Family History), Jennifer Alford (Jenealogy), and Heather Reed are the faces behind The In-Depth Genealogist. However, they could not do what they do without their writers, contributors, and supporters. Three are active in the genealogy community as well as in their own niche. Terri runs a successful home-based travel agency as well as working as a professional genealogist. Shannon is a graduate of Indiana University and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus on genetics which she uses to help others understand their DNA results as part of her business. Shannon also lectures on many topics from genetic genealogy to methodology and writes for publication. In her day job, Jennifer is a Professional Engineer focused on traffic and by night works as a genealogist, specializing in Jewish genealogy research and designing beautiful ways to share your research. Heather is a college administrator and instructor with a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science and a minor in History.
