The genus Jasminum contains a diverse collection of vines and shrubs that can be used to make jasmine perfume. Blossoms of the common jasmine, also known by its scientific name, Jasminum officinale, are fragrant and white in color, although the flowers of closely related species might be pink or yellow. Olives are related to every type of jasmine plant, including both shrubs and vines (Oleaceae).
