- A celebration of the spirit and comradery of Sunday League football on Hackney Marshes told through photographs and quotes Every Sunday a small army of amateur footballers descend on Hackney Marshes. Known as the 'spiritual home of amateur football', the marshes consist of some 80 pitches where more than 50 matches are played each week from September until April. Photographer Chris Baker, an amateur footballer himself, has spent the past three seasons documenting this Sunday ritual. Players turn up late, hungover, discussing last night's conquest and light cigarettes at half-time. There are occasional brawls, laughs and some serious football before post-match pints and then finally home to the missus. This is Sunday League football at its best. Baker's photographs are coupled with a selection of (often hilarious) quotes and stories from the players.
