"This is a report of the planning, design and construction of experimental equipment appropriate for research on the learning process and the evaluation of complex instructional and informational programs. The Classroom Communicator makes possible, among other things, the administration of multiple-choice objective tests, or attitude scales, in such a way that the results are available directly after the conclusion of the test. In addition, the instructor or experimenter can see immediately how each Individual responds to each item in the test. Other features of the system will make possible new kinds of experimentation in the learning process. The pre-design functional requirements for the equipment are given in detail. The equipment which has been designed and constructed to meet these requirements is described and illustrated. An explanation is given of how the components of the Classroom Communicator operate. This section of the report also describes the various controls and the functions they perform. The operational characteristics of the system as it now exists are outlined along with plans for using the equipment in research. Finally, a number of other possible practical uses for a system like the Classroom Communicator are suggested."--Summary.
