Confronting Genocide

Scholars of religious studies have come late to the study of genocide, a subject that up until now has primarily been the domain of historians, political scientists and sociologists. This volume seeks to remedy the situation, and in doing so is the first of its kind to address religion as an important factor that often contributes to the implementation and perpetuation of genocide--as well as viewing it as the foundation and justification for such collective acts. As such, the authors look at the larger issues of the nexus between what we call religion and genocide, in both its theological formulations and institutional configurations.
