Aase's Family

Aase Olsdatter Grotnes Bergsto (1828-1916) was born at Grotnes, Kviteseid, Telemark, Norway, the daughter of Ole/Olav Gunnersen Grotnes (1788-after 1851) and Anne Hansdatter Fjaagesund Tveit (1800-after 1851). She married Olav Steinulvsen Teigen Omnes Bergene Stephens (b. 1798), son of Steinulv Olsen Teigen Omnaes (1761-1827) and Ingeborg Steinasdatter Reimal Overland (b. ca. 1779) in 1850 in Telemark. They had three children, 1852-1859, born at Kviteseid, Telemark. Aase and her two daughters immigrated to the United States in 1861 and settled at Whitewater, Wisconsin. Her son, Halvor O. Stevens (1852-1887), and his family immigrated in 1876 and settled at Milan, Minnesota. Aase married 2) John Ellefson (1840-1886), a native of Norway, in Wisconsin in 1870. They had two sons, 1870-1872. The family moved to Milan, Minnesota, ca. 1876. Descendants listed lived in Minnesota, Oregon, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan and elsewhere.
