This book presents a thorough examination of the theme of masculine submission as manifest in approximately 1000 poems, created by some 80 troubadours who lived from the 10th-13th centuries. The theories of the origins of Courtly Love have been reviewed for possible sources for the theme of masculine submission. A study of the vocabulary of submission has been presented so as to illustrate the carefully construed nature of this theme and to give testimony to its fundamental importance in the formulation of the Courtly Love casuistry.
