RAMP - Risk Analysis and Management for Projects

This handbook describes a process for analysing and responding to risks, which can affect the overall success of projects. The process is called RAMP - standing for 'Risk Analysis and Management for Projects.' It has been devised by a joint working party of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries. RAMP is designed to meet a perceived need for a more rigorous approach to risk management which can be applied to all types and stages of investments - e.g. investments in new infrastructure, manufacturing plants, property developments, telecommunications networks, computer systems and new products and services. RAMP provides a method to enable a structured and consistent analysis of risk within projects (and between them) to be carried out effectively. It can be applied either at a strategic level or as a detailed analytical and control process. RAMP is a comprehensive and systematic process for identifying, evaluating and managing risks in capital investment projects. It covers the entire life of a project from inception to closedown - not just the construction stage.
