Margaret, a sculptor, has been hired by a museum to build a life size model of "Lucy", mankind's ancestral link to the primative world. Margaret's life is in disarray with a poor financial situation, ended marriage and more. She feels as though she is withering spiritually and now physically. She is guided in her work by footprints, the male's walk straight and forward while Lucy's turn off the path for an instant. She finds herself identifying with Lucy and asking questions of evolution and the human condition.
