The list of missing persons we are examining here seems to be just the tip of the iceberg. The cases where the facts appear so completely senseless, where victims are found at inhuman distances, where victims seem to be missing time, cases where children are as helpless as adults, disappearing from one moment to the next, these cases number in the hundreds, perhaps even thousands.

In many cases, the facts are too unclear. Perhaps they are poorly documented, perhaps there are misunderstandings. Such cases, although often just as incredible, are mostly left aside...

The cases we are discussing here show crystal-clear inconsistencies, some so numerous that they must be classified as 'mysterious,' almost as a miracle... a miracle either in how the victim is found again... or how the victim could have disappeared at all... sometimes, how they could survive days and weeks in the wilderness... sometimes, how the body can remain so well preserved after years.

These cases are difficult to explain; it is not an exaggeration to call them 'inexplicable.' They are eerie and mysterious, nothing fits together—facts, victim profiles, witness statements... everything contradicts itself.

And yet, these people are missing. Some reappear... others remain forever lost in the nirvana of time and space.
