Abstract: A reference handbook for counselors and practicing therapists discusses the diagnosis, causes, incidence, prevention, early detection, recovery, and physical and psychological effects of anorexia nervosa and bulimia in adolescent and adult women. Practical suggestions and guidelines are included for establishing diet counseling and therapy groups and for distributing information to various target populations. The state of current knowledge in individual, family, and group therapy techniques is explored. Special sections of the text focus on the logistics and problems of aiding anorexics and bulimics in various settings. (wz).
