Journal Entry #15 - No New Answers

July 24, 2012 Tuesday

Dr. Parker continued; "I wish that I could profess to know what is
causing this... nevertheless with all my years of experience and expertise,
I cannot even do that." He shuffled through the tattered green file folder
on his desk, with the name Douglas Pendleton inscribed on the tab. As
he reached the transparent pictures of the brain scans, he said; "I have
examined the images over and over again, but the concern is that they are
flawless."
"Isn't that a good thing?" Marie asked.
"Regretfully, no." he answered. "You see Doug and Marie, the
concept is that memory loss problems are commonly manifested in the
MRI scans. Usually damaged or detached areas of the brain are easily
recognized, much like a standard x-ray would tell you if there was a
problem, or irregularity. My dilemma with Doug's scans is that the reality
of any explanation or answers for why he cannot access his spiritual
memories, is simply not available. It distinctly indicates there is nothing
wrong, and does not prove that he has actually suffered any memory loss
for that matter. All we know is that something has divided Doug from his
memory and his ability to access it, unfortunately there is no real physical
evidence of it, aside from what you have told me."
"So what do you think it is?" I asked.
The doctor leaned in and rested his elbows on his desk, he rubbed
his forehead forcefully with both hands, and slid them down his face. "I am
not entirely sure to tell you the truth." the doctor replied. He leaned back
once again, and merged comfortably into his large black chair.

He said; "My best theory is; that there is some sort of veil on
your mind, Doug. I surmise that this veil prevented the infection from
destroying certain parts of your brain, or perhaps it was to preserve your
memories from getting damaged permanently. Even the neurological
electrical storms that the seizures caused were potentially destructive,
and could have wiped your memory clean, given the right circumstances.
My speculation is that this veil deliberately acted as a type of shield, that
both safeguarded and barricaded the parts of your memory, that primarily
relates to anything spiritual."
The doctors attention moved to Marie, "Not only was the path to
these memories blockaded from being destroyed, but it also denies Doug
the very ability to draw from them as well."
"From what I can detect, the memories are still there;" he said,
"we just need to discover a way to unlock them. I perceive this might
be temporary, and the memories may come back, but there is no way of
knowing for sure. Surgery would be much too uncertain and I would not
recommend it. It seems the only option is to venture through a therapy of
relearning what was lost. Or in other words to try and restore the memories
back through this veil."
"Since Doug is the only known documented case to have this
happen, I do not know if it can be reversed."
