On the 7th May 1945, a senior British Army Officer sailed into Narvik harbor to receive the surrender of the German armies in Norway and the liberation of that country. On the following day, Norway's war-time Prime Minister, Vidkun Quisling was under arrest facing a charge of treason. From that time on with the help of the worlds press and radios a new word was coined in almost every language - QUISLING "a traitor." As time passed the word became a term of political abuse and orators would spit the word out when they wanted to damn an opponent - a quisling, a scoundrel, a traitor to country and cause. But who was Vidkun Quisling?

Harald Franklin Knudsen worked close to Vidkun Quisling for many years, and he had followed Quislings political life from the time when he started his National Union until his execution after the war. In this book the author quote hitherto unpublished documents and tells the exciting story about the man who was highly respected in Norway before the war, how Quisling served as the Minister of Defense for the Farmer's Party, and later how he became the Prime Minister of Norway during World War II.

Knudsen presents a totally new picture of Vidkun Quisling, and argues that Quisling took the sternest possible line in dealing with the occupation authorities.
