The name "Fillmore Auditorium" is synonymous with rock music played in the most intimate, club-sized surroundings in the U.S. This is the first-ever, in-depth book - replete with historic art and photos - about the iconic original Fillmore Auditoriums in San Francisco and New York City, as well as their successors. Among rock's greats who have performed at one or more of the Fillmores include Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, John Fogarty, the Who, Pink Floyd, and the Doors. Prominent other-than-rock musicians including Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, and dozens more were just as proud to have "played the Fillmore." The Fillmore venue was first made famous by promoter Bill Graham, and - nearly 45 years later - is still the place for classic rock, light shows, and psychedelic concert posters.
