Metroscapes

Metroscapes presents two important bodies of photography: one urban, focusing on the former Gateway area of Minneapolis, and the other suburban, focusing on the effects on our urban and rural areas of the growth of suburbs.

Jerome Liebling and Robert Wilcox documented the Minneapolis Gateway area prior to its demolition for "urban renewal, " capturing buildings that would soon be torn down and the world of the men who lived the area's cheap hotels. A separate group of photographers and video artists from the Twin Cities took the suburban landscape as a central subject in a case study of urban design and land use.
