In Francisco Pizarro and His Brothers, Rafael Varon Gabai breaks fresh ground in his reconstruction of the Pizarro's conquest as a new form of business enterprise, built up by Francisco Pizarro both to conduct government and to manage his family's exploitation of Peru. Extensive research in more than a dozen private and public archives in Spain, England, Peru, and Bolivia enabled Varon Gabai to reconstruct a picture of the Pizarros' transatlantic organization and to flesh out the hundreds of people and the vast resources that formed their patrimony in America. Varon Gabai concludes that the Pizarros' enterprise cannot be described as seigneurial or dynastic. Rather, it arises as a new Hispanic American model.
