Bandits, Eunuchs, and the Son of Heaven

This title considers the economy of violence during the Ming dynasty. Using primary sources, it recreates in detail a world wear bandits raided the boulevards in and around Beijing. It reveals how illicit armed violence formed a critical facet of late-imperial Chinese history.
