Land of Promises

Report of the East Kimberley Impact Assessment Project conducted between 1985 and 1988 in response to requests from local Aboriginal communities for assistance in dealing with economic and social change arising from resource development. Presents a strong case for questioning the beliefs that pastoral settlement, 1880's gold rush' the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, the Argyle diamond mine and tourism, promised riches to East Kimberley. Concludes that development should be based on Aboriginal people and the land of promises is really a land of broken and forgotten promises.
