Judicial Review Handbook

Judicial review is the method by which actions of public bodies can be challenged in court. All other available remedies or appeals must be exhausted before an application for judicial review can be made. Individuals and pressure groups can make applications for judicial review and before the facts of the case are heard, leave must be granted to allow judicial review. This first stage is the crucial element of this area of law.
