The Governors of California is the first comprehensive study of the careers and administrations of the thirty-two Chief Executives of California from Peter H. Burnett to Emund G. Brown. Each of these influential men--five became United States Senators; several served as congessmen; five later held diplomatic posts; two were Vice-Presidential candidates; and one became Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court--is treated in an chapter with a select bibliography.
