The subtitle continues: ...as detailed in his diary, reports, and letters, including his famous last journals; with maps and numerous illustrations. It is unlikely that all of the 1874 volume, of which this is a reprint, was indeed penned by Livingstone himself, as it recounts events Livingstone couldn't have witnessed, including his own funeral procession. According to the publisher of the original volume, the text was compiled from his writings; and the publishers of this edition did not add material evaluating the text in any way. The text describes Livingstone's travels in Africa in a moderately sensationalist style typical for the period of publication. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
