Unlike many developing countries, India has a mature legal, tax and financial infrastructure. Despite this, India has been considered as a difficult country by foreign companies. In 1991, the Indian government decided to introduce more liberal policies in order to attact foreign investment. Attempts have been made to make these policies more transparent and to eliminate bureaucratic discretion in many areas. This book provides an overview of the important elements of legislation and policy, and information useful for setting up an office and doing business in India. The multi-disciplinery approach is based on the author's experience in advising large corporations on investment and infrastructure projects in India over the last 12 years.
