The Ride

In the late summer of 1961, six friends who had just graduated from high school in Yakima, Washington, embarked on a 2,000 mile two week journey from their homes in Yakima down the Oregon and California coastlines to San Francisco, returning on an inland route through Central California , Central Oregon and Central Washington. They rode without the safety nets of today's riders: credit cards, cell phones, cushy motels and restaurants. They had no back-up and carried less than $100 each in their pockets. Sleeping under the stars and living on campfire fare, this story follows their fortunes as well as their misfortunes during the adventure of their young lives.
