The running of the lottery in Britain is still highly controversial, and this book, as the first comprehensive account of its regulation, will attract considerable attention. The book examines the political context of the launch of the lottery looking especially at the privatization policies of Conservative governments between 1979 and 1994, which Dr Douglas argues were more influential in this case than international precedent.
