Electricity Supply

This report concerns the adequacy of consumer & investor protection in the electric utility industry. Covers: (1) recent changes within the electric utility industry that involved utility holding co. (UHC); (2) the effect of these changes on the SEC admin. of the Public Utility Holding Co. Act (PUHCA) of 1935, as amended; & (3) the relationship between SEC, the FERC, & state regulators in protecting consumer & investor interests in the changing industry. PUHCA is designed to discourage UHC from structuring their operations so as to frustrate effective state regulation of their utility subsidiaries. The act confines a UHC¿s utility operations to a single geographic area & requires UHC to maintain simple corp. & financial structures. Charts & tables.
