David Steele was an American Reformed Presbyterian missionary among London's Jews in the mid-19th Century. His perspective is historicist and postmillenial. However, unlike most modern postmills, who view the Millenium as referring to the time between the first and second advents, Steele looks for a future, mystical Millenium, ended by the return of Christ. This book is called Notes, because it really isn't an in-depth commentary. the principal aim being simply to ascertain and present to the reader the mind of the Holy Spirit. How far this object has been accomplished, is of course left to the judgment of the honest inquirer. The reader, however, in forming his judgment of the value of these Notes, may be reminded of that inspired rule in searching the Scriptures, -- "Comparing spiritual things with spiritual."
