El Niño, Southern Oscillation & Climatic Variability

This text and accompanying CD-ROM are based on a record of more than a century of scientific observations of our oceans and atmosphere. The observations of pressure and sea surface temperature are reinterpreted in the light of recent understanding of the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) as an interaction of the ocean and atmosphere. ENSO is now understood to play a critical role in many extremes of climate, and the book is interspersed with examinations of the physical impacts of major ENSO phases (El Nino and La Nina).
