Published in December 1750, Charlotte Lennox's The life of Harriot Stuart, written by herself is about the flirtatious attitude of the title character. Presenting her character and life style, the work is at time claimed to be autobiographical; it is hard for the critics to separate the narrator, the heroine and the authoress of the novel. Didactic in tone, the work does not emphasize the regrets of the heroine, rather the process of her self-creation and self-identification.
