Surveying is a branch of Geomatics, focusing on measuring and recording the positions and elevations of the points on the Earth surface. It is an old discipline but has evolved further from satellite-based surveying, remote sensing and geographic information science in recent decades. Therefore, this book consists of two parts: conventional surveying and modern surveying. The former discusses the surveying principles and methods using conventional surveying instruments; the latter addresses the principles in geographic information systems, remote sensing and global positioning systems.
