An Overland Journey to California in 1852

Hickman left Independence, Missouri, on 5 May 1852, and arrived in Nevada City, California, on 17 August 1852. He was in a small wagon train of about 32 people. In a series of letters to his mother, he described the incidents of daily life on the trail and gave details of the route.
