In 1977, a young Hmong man living in Minneapolis MN is asked to help sponsor a young woman living in Ban Vinai for resettlement in the U.S. He travels to Thailand and asks Pafua to marry him, but her mother refuses. Many years later, he discovers the truth about the refusal.
