Mason Nash grew up playing baseball. He is pushed by his father to be the best. But he has competition from an equally talented player named Kirk Valentine. When Mason is severely injured during his first year of American Legion ball, his career appears to be at an end. He goes into a depressed state after his return home from the hospital and is content to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Zee Ingram, a tough young physical therapist, refuses to let Mason wilt in his chair. Mason is reluctant at first, but slowly responds to her. Mason gets a second chance to prove he can still play. the last inning is more than a sports story. A young man battles back with the help of his two best friends, family, an unrelenting therapist, and an unlikely source. Along the way he regains his self-respect.
