Analyses women's position and status in three Nordic labour markets as it is manifested in labour market inequalities and in particular occupational segregation by sex over the period from 1970 to 1990. Provides examples of Nordic policies to enhance gender equality (family support programmes, legal framework and national machinery for equality policies) that are important with regard to segregation. Comprises a statistical analysis using statistics on female-dominated and male-dominated occupations and indices of inequalities; an investigation of monetization of household work and differences in the degree of occupational segregation by sex in the three countries; and a study of the status of women and men in similar occupations where there are differences in status.
