The North American continent, including the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico, has an astonishing range of ecological diversity that, until now, has never been visually documented in a single book. This rich natural heritage is the inspiration behind The Nature of America, which brings together images from the very best nature photographers, the results of a yearlong project to photograph the greatest parks and wild areas of North America. Assembled with one goal in mind - to capture on film what they cherish most about wild America - this prestigious group of photographers submitted over 5,000 pictures that were edited down to the 204 images published here. None of these photographs have been digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way. Also, no captive mammals were photographed, and no wildflowers were damaged or moved to be more photogenic. David Middleton's text and captions provide a brief natural history of each area, highlighting what is most unique and delightful about the ecoregions and describing what you see in the pictures. A Photographer's Seasonal Calendar is provided at the end to help you plan when to visit places all across America at the peak of what each has to offer visually.
