Abstract: Techniques important to successful business letter writing are demonstrated in this collection of more than 275 sample letters designed to meet the majority of business needs, minimize the time required for writing letters, and produce a professional finsihed product. Model letters are classified in the following categories: 1) straightening out errors and mix-ups, 2) asking for information, 3) giving instructions, 4) asking for difficult requests, 5) regarding assistance, 6) suggesting change, 7) concerning advice, 8) handling acceptance and refusal, 9) expressing compliments, commendations, and reprimands, 10) concerning credit, price changes, customer complaints, 11) advertising and sales, 12) anouncements of greetings, 13) thank-you letters and 14) personal letters in a business framework. Key factors in a good business letter and instructions for using the sample letters to solve specific writing problems are presented. Guidelines are prodided concerning the overall appearance and technical aspects of business letters. A reference list of special titles and forms of address and a subject index are included. (aje).
