"Este Rafan, a young man, raised in poverty in a fictional Middle Eastern country, rises to become the country's leader. His parents died of malnutrition when he was a boy. Bright and motivated, he vows to make the changes that will prevent that sort of tragedy from happening again in his country of Malfon. He exceeds his boyhood friend and elder, Mahumud M'hut, but drags M'hut along on his rise to power. Meanwhile, M'hut's wife, another childhood friend, plots against Rafan with the obstructive Defense Minister Mustafah Aturk. Rafan ramrods water projects for the desert country, electrifies Malfon, and builds a military might that sensitizes nearly everyone. With the discovery of previously hidden oil deposits, Malfon starts on the road to wealth and is perceived as the cause of all that is good and bad about Malfon, but Rafan's erratic behavior worries the government officials. Eventually, it has to be acknowledged that Rafan has lost his sanity. But, how do you depose the man who is viewed predominantly as the country's savior?
