St. James Guide to Biography

A user's guide to biography which tells the reader who has written about whom. It evaluates the accuracy, scope, approach and style of what has been written and covers the most important biographies of 700 of the most written and read about people in history, literature, sciences and the arts. Each entry comprises a bibliographic listing of biographies on the entrant, including citations for both UK and US editions; and a critical essay which reviews and evaluates each biography on the basis of its overall quality and its appropriateness for general and scholarly use.
