Smallwood & Carter Connections to Family Histories and Royalty

James Smallwood was born in about 1639. He married Hester Evans and they had eleven children. They lived in Charles County, Maryland. He is the immigrant ancestor of Elmer Eugene Smallwood (b. 1928), son of Elmer Russell Smallwood (1905-1962) and Edith Helen Rhine (1907-1989). Elmer married Jean Marie Carter (b. 1929), daughter of Charles Dennis Carter and Dorothy Jenette Croson. Jean is descended from Richard Carter who was born in the mid-1700s in Britain. He emigrated before the Revolutionary War and settled in Pennsylvania. He fought in the War in the Third Virginia Regiment. He married Catherine in about 1781 and they had ten children. Descendants and relatives lived mainy in Maryland, Virginia and Ohio.
