Most of us have suffered some abuse or neglect in our formative years. We can escape the resulting low self-esteem and feelings of shame through drugs, alcohol, and/or dysfunctional love connections. Or we can try to find meaning through more positive channels: art, religion, sports, service to others, etc. Carol's restless spirit and attempt to escape her past inspired her to travel to San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district on a motorcycle in 1966. Eventually, she would journey from North Carolina to the Yukon Territories, from Nova Scotia to Victoria, B.C. Silver Medalist, 2017 Human Relations Indie Book Awards.
