Quality of life (QOL) research in tourism has gained much momentum over the last two decades. Much of that research can be categorized in two major groups: (1) QOL research in relation to travellers/tourists, and (2) QOL research in relation to the residents of tourism communities. We propose to organize the handbook in terms of a prologue chapter in which the co-editors would set the stage for the entire handbook. This will be followed by chapters dealing with Part 1 (QOL research in relation to travellers/tourists. Part 2 will contain chapters dealing with QOL research in relation to host communities. The handbook will end with an epilogue chapter written by the co-editors. The epilogue will summarize and highlight the major points covered in the entire handbook.
