"Our family history traces the descendants of Adam Funk. Because all of Adam's daughters married two Stubblefield brothers, all of his grand- children carried only the surnames of Funk or Stubblefield. Most of the Adam Funk family came to central Illinois from Ohio in the early 1820's, purchased land, built a school and later a church in the Funks Grove area south of Bloomington. Many of their descendants remain, 160 hence, in the Funks Grove vicinity"--Foreword (p. vi). Other descendants and relatives lived in Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California and elsewhere. Adam Funk (1758-1830) was a grandson of a German immigrant to Virginia, whose name was either Adam Funk or Frederick Funk.
