Fanny Burney (1752-1840 was a novelist, playwright and diarist. She wrote four novels, eight plays, and twenty volumes of journals and letters. Burney's novels explore the lives of British aristocrats and satirize their shortcomings. Her work also looked at more important issues such as feminine politics. Cecillia Beverley is an heiress. She leaves her home in Suffolk to move to London where she lives with the Harrells. Cecillia's husband must take her name if they are to keep her inheritance. Cecillia was a controversial novel full of humor, humanity and social relevance.
