Summary of findings of an ethnoarchaeological study made between 1979 and 1986, on the Kurdish community of Kiyicak (made up of the inhabitants of the villages Asagi Pirot and Tepekoy) on the lower Euphrates, 40 km east of Malatya. The study was made during the construction of the Karakaya dam on the Euphrates, during excavation of the Neolithic site of Cafer Hoyuek (8th millennium), the objective being to describe the elements of a disappearing traditional culture in order to make interpretations regarding the archaeological remains of a site in the same area. Detailed observations were made of the following: natural environment; community and population; economics and use of land; construction materials and techniques; organisation of domestic space and typology of houses; organisation of building groups; comparative regional perspectives of dwellings on the upper Euphrates. Finally, attempts were made to relate these observations to the archaeological remains of Cafer Hoyuek. French with English summary.
