Keller was the physician on the Wayne County, Ohio, company that traveled in 1850 on the northern route to California. He described the scenery and the trials, gold mining, and the Indians of California. He provided guidance for future emigrants on items needed for the journey and mileages and a roster of the Wayne County company.
