William Platt Ball (1844-1917) was an English schoolmaster, author and freethinker. He was a teacher, but retired to join the staff of The Freethinker, a British secular humanist journal, founded by George William Foote in 1881. Ball's works include: Christian Murderers (c1883), Mrs. Besant's Socialism: An Examination and an Exposure (1886) and Are the Effects of Use and Disuse Inherited? (1890). With George William Foote, he jointly edited The Bible Handbook for Freethinkers and Inquiring Christians (3 volumes) (1885).
