Analyzes Spanish policy toward Jews and Christian-Jewish relations in Spain since 1900. Ch. 5 (pp. 91-105), "Antisemitismo en España (1900-1939)", discusses various trends of antisemitism as expressed in the Spanish press: the fascist trend, denouncing Jews as Marxists, capitalists, and conspirators (e.g. Onésimo Redondo of the Juntas Obreras Nacionales Sindicalistas, the Falange, "FE", "Arriba", "Libertad"); the monarchic-Catholic trend, with accusations of deicide (e.g. "El Siglo Futuro"); and the official-military trend from the Civil War on, against Jews, Freemasons, and Marxists (e.g. Franco, Carrero Blanco). Recalls the publication of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" in 1932 and traces the various expressions and waves of antisemitism (1939-45, 1960) during Franco's dictatorship and under democratic rule after 1975. Also discusses the fact that Franco helped Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.
